well so far this is just to see how many people are really interested in this idea.

my plan is to start with uncharted waters for main inspiration
throw in a dash of random map generator
sprinkle in some alternative races
mix well with a modern cross platform engine
with a minecraftian incremental release style

initial release will be a free basic concept demo type of deal

then after a certain level of features are implemented a low cost retail release with free updates forever

then when it hits feature level 2 or 3 another slight price increase

once the price is up to approx 20$ (depends on feedback ect) then there wouldn't be any more price jumps but i would continue to add features until interest stopped or i ran out of reasonable features.

planned features! in no particular order and not guaranteed.

1. random worlds (if random wont work lots of maps and a map editor)
2. self regulating economy
3. customizable ships (as many as reasonable)
4. SNES aka Retro style graphics
5. User input on new features!!
6. once engine is stable MOD interface
7. multiple combat interfaces, like huge tactical micro managed detail? well ok its gonna be in there, prefer a laid back partly or fully automated combat?? also in there somewhere in between? well we can work on it
8. own a port? sounds fantastic lets try and put it in!
9. have your character age and die? well not without kids!! don't wanna deal with dating? adopt!!
10. don't forget the skills and stat blocks you want a good captain... or is it admiral? well no one starts awesome.
11. probably something that will be most asked about/begged for/demanded... Multiplayer! this is planned to be a here is the server software have fun with it deal like minecraft has done
12.. uhhh ummm do i even need a 12?

so let me know what you guys think of this and don't expect me to churn something out next week either while i plan this to be a money making game eventually right now I am looking for free helpers! plan to stick with it till it makes money? we can work out a share system so no one gets shafted.

the initial demo will always be free and anyone buying the game will always have free updates forever

i think you can e-mail me thru the forum if not ill add a e-mail.

hope to hear from a lot of you soon this game inspired me to get into software development and ill make it for just myself if i have to!

Well, i think that one of the things UWNH fans like about the game is the historical background the game offers. So, a random map may not be a great idea. Personally I would like a realistic world with countries and politic situations. Also, the story is very important, so I think single player should come first, and then add a multplayer as a bonus mode.
I am always interested in projects like that, but you must pay atention to these thing that make UWNH a great game. You can read what some guys in the forum and I were talking about it in a topic called Snes hack

hmm i see i was not very clear on a few parts thank you link for replying. i think a less random method of maps might be a better idea and dont worry multiplayer is going to be a lot of versions from now lol if i can i want the map editor/mod support to allow user created content from ships to a whole scenario

Yeah, custom ships are a good idea. If you need help with historical background i can help you, and maybe someone else in the forum can to, because a lot of guys here know more about specific subjects. I also am good in graphic design so if you have any ideas maybe i can draw them.

For example, in uwnh gaiden when during storm come into city, there pours a rain. The insignificant difference, but is interesting.

In general, game having the large similarity to the versions snes and sega, basically, absolutely another. The political attitudes others, in palace of any state do not start up, it is not known how to get to the governor. For exotic things give payment only in Naples, there are some other buildings in various cities and many other things. So wishing to change the world in uwnh, such opportunity is represented.
