What are your other favorites games besides Koei?
Mine are NES: Metroid, Shingen the Ruler (previously mentioned), Destiny of an Emperor (RTK characters), Defender of the Crown, Simon's Quest, Willow, Elevator Action, Wrecking Crew and Ice Hockey.
SNES: Super Metroid, Ogre Battle, King Arthur's World, Lufia 1 & 2, and Zelda.
GBA: The Knight of Lodis, Advanced Wars 1 & 2, Dynasty Warrior, Lord of the Ring, Metroid Fusion.
N64: Mario Kart.
Those were the ones I played the most from another company.
BTW, Dynasty Warrior has all the characters from Romance of the three Kingdoms.

There is an NES game called Overlord that I enjoyed a lot. It is a real-time strategy game that I think is a lot like Master of Orion...or technically, I think Master of Orion is a lot like Overlord. I think Overlord had a pc release that was known as Supremacy.

Shingen the Ruler is a good game if you can figure out a strategy in the first few years of the game. At one time I knew every move to make for almost all of the battles, I played it so often.

Destiny of an Emperor is another very good game, but until I changed controllers I had trouble with that ONE lousy sequence you had to use late in the game.

Ogre Battle March of the Black Queen on the NES and Ogre Battle Person of Lordly Caliber on the N64 took up a lot of time when I took a short break from playing New Horizons.

I also enjoyed the Dragon Warrior series and some of the Final Fantasy games.

If you can find Ascendancy, that is a very good game. Another that I discovered only a few years ago is Master of Magic...an awesome game.

Any information that I provide is based on the SNES version unless otherwise specified. I have thousands of hours into New Horizons and I have played it since it was released in the US on the SNES.

Times of Lore was another game I liked a lot but I never finished it. I used to rent it at the Video club but it wasn't popular enough so they sold it. I would have bought it but it was already gone. 😐
The last thing I remember was to beat the giant guy and obtaining some kind of ring. I looked for it online but I haven't found the rom yet. I still have some codes on a yellowed paper sheet. πŸ˜€
Sheherazade was also interesting but the rom version is bad and the colors are weird.

I always start with the territory right above to gain experience and retreat after the game asks if I want to attack the castle. Once I gain a few levels I attack the lower right one then I go up and usually get to Nobunaga Oda when I'm about level 42 or 45. It's still hard because he usually is around level 54 or 55. One game, I had to face him when I was on level 15! Fortunately, he didn't have a big army but it was an epic battle.

Have you ever played with Defender of The Crown?
It's a fun game but it's not as refined as RTK and it can usually be completed in a few hours.
When I got interest in Amiga computers, I couldn't beleive the quality of the graphics. I wish I had an Amiga back then but they were way too expensive.

Look at those graphics!

I have both of those games, Times of Lore and Defender of the Crown. I really haven't played either of them that much and I don't even remember finishing either one. That probably means that I got them at a time when I got one of the games that I played way too much. πŸ˜€

I found Times of Lore and played for a while but I didn't enjoy it as much as I did originally. The emulated graphics aren't great and the colors especially are annoying to the eyes.
The battle mode is fun thought.
You can circle around an enemy and hit him. I don't know many 8 bit games that had this option. Most were linear.
On the other hand I played Shingen and I enjoy it as much. There's something about this game I like a lot. πŸ™‚

If anyone has a game suggestion on NES, SNES or GBA please share it with us. There were so many made that I'm sure I never played and some that I forgot the title but used to like.
There was one in particular (SNES?) that was similar to commando or Ikari Warrior but with amazing graphics and details. I remember a tunnel and a train but that's about it.
I wish I could remember the title.

Master of Orion, played all three, but really got into manipulating the game details in MOO III. Hacked the heck out of the galaxy building so that almost every solar system would have a special item and lowered the costs for all of the good attributes. I was also able to hack the ship building so that the turn following its design, I could change any quantity and power of weapons, increase armor and shields, have almost unlimited speed, and lower its building cost to almost zero. Imagine being able to wipe out the New Orions with a fleet of scouts. I also start out with over 100 million credits in my treasury and Science budget which would last well over 50 turns - by then I have explored the full galaxy and get bored.

"Lord of the Rings" for SNES was real easy to hack - mithril coats and "Sting" for everyone.

For PC - "The Summoning" was a fun real-time game and it took a while to play even with a hint book. It had the "almost" 3 dimensional graphics for its time. Would have gone well as a Gamecube or other high end system game. Never hacked it, as the hint book was enough to get through it.

For the PC, "Privateer" is an all-time favorite.

That looks like an interesting game. I'm guessing that you are referring to the East India Company: Privateer game released in 2009. There is also an Age of Sails game and a shooter called Wing Commander: Privateer, just to mention a couple of things I saw while trying to look up the game.

Finding a PC game around here is difficult and usually only one of the top 5 games for the PC is available...meaning the ones with the most promotion.

What is the time period for Privateer? How many characters are there? What is the game-play?

Any information that I provide is based on the SNES version unless otherwise specified. I have thousands of hours into New Horizons and I have played it since it was released in the US on the SNES.

"Wing Commanger: Privateer" is the one I am referring to: it is a space trading RPG game released in 1993 by Origin. Has a great plot which is event triggered so you can take your time trading to build up to the best ship with the best weapons and it is fun to go around in a space ship shooting at other ships.
There was an add on called "Righteous Fire" which continued where the first left off and a "Privateer 2" which was much different - but a good attempt at updating the graphics and taking advantage of newer and more powerfull computers with in-game movies to enhance the plot.
There was also a Wing Commander for the SNES, but it was not the same.
The Privateer I am refering to can be downloaded from any number of websites and played using DOSBox - it has a good following as well.
