Well, look here. It seems that dragon one doesn't happen without special cheating. http://www.gamefaqs.com/pm/?id=766430

I also tried to look for one of the characters, and trying to discover the "whales" of all the coordinates. The result - nothing.

And on this site is inconvenient. It is difficult to find something specific.

Oh, Mr. Sizintsev, I've been away from the internet for a while. Sad that you're so exacting about "specifics," making it hard to figure what to say. Couldn't find whales? Did you ever try using that feature of the game wher you press down on the directional pad while pressing button A, and it says, "Set your destination?" The way spaces at sea are divided up is such that there are several tiny spaces your ship can actually occupy that all say the same instrument coordinates. Try putting a gentle touch on the D-Pad with "Set your destination," seeing how barely you can move north or south, then move the highlight box a good way west or east, then see how barely north or south you can move the highlight box again. That appears to me to be the only way to be sure of covering all bases at any one set of instrument coordinates. If that's not good enough for you, I'm all stumped what to say.

You mean the automatic navigation? Yes, I know this little secret. On the website States that some monsters, like the village, do not always appear in the same places. Need to try in the story of another character, and perhaps they will be discovered.

The way I made a renewed effort motivated by the list passed on by Chaoyun2K, it sure didn't look to me like it matters which of the 6 characters you start as, if that's what you mean. Each event pretty much came at the same spot for Pietro, Ernst, and Ali. Well, what bugged me about your "never specific enough" remarks most of all is, you seem to want each set of Theodolite coordinates to have all their little sub-spaces or "tiles" displayed as a grid, and maybe "manta ray at X2, Y3" or something like that--to which I would reply, "Oh, come now, who wants to research all those spots such a way so far from fun? And if they did, it might be manually difficult to hit your spots lined up just right without the set-your-destination feature anyway." Do you even understand what Chaoyun 2K meant by "one tile away?" Lots of video games have a distinct way you're always on spaces. "Warsong," a game that's not by KOEI but I think is pretty nifty for a set 20 stages only RPG, is one example. Likewise, your ocean is divided into spaces, though there's no showing them with a grid of lines. Now, this is my final attempt at being specific for you. 1.) The whales location I described as near New Zeland is the first one that can be opened, and even for that you have to be sure you've been through enough of the other events first. The instrument coordinates for that are listed as 35S. X 176E. 2.) To do like I did, make sure you have more in your fleet than just the flagship, for, like the dense fog and the firey phoenix, this one will have no effect if you come in just one lone ship. And get your fleet to 36 S. X 175 E. 3.) Hit down and button A for "set your destination"(I hope calling it "automatic navigation" doesn't mean you've confused it with "Auto-Sail," the first-mate-driven feature that I haven't used in years because it's prone to inefficiency), and put a gentle touch on your D-pad, and see how barely you can move the highlight box north while moving it at all, then hit button C so your ship goes there. 3.) When you get there and it says, "set your destination" again, move the highlight box a good way west so you'll probably sweep to at least 177 E. 4.) "Set your destination" comes again, now move that highlight box as barely north as possible again, and sweep left(west) a good distance, at least until you hit 175 E. again. 5.) Repeat in this wise until your instrument says 34 S., to assure you've covered every piece of 35 S. X 176 E. 6.) I think it's actually possible that random luck may keep you from hitting it the first time even with all that effort. You may need to sweep through 35 S. X 176 E. in that wise several successive times before it's actually triggered. The best way to hunt whales is either be Captain Ahab, or be persistent with "set your destination." This policy worked so well for me, I not only saw all whales locations, I got 9 out of 10 of each of the groups of 10 listed by Chaoyun2K, skipping the "Terror Kraken," a.k.a. Giant Squid, in each group of 10--thank heaven! I hate that Giant Squid more than any other. The results of all others are more easily fixed than a loss of 10 Courage for you and all your mateys.

My apologies for my absence, but it seems that you have figured everything out pretty much. Thank you Mark for all of your efforts and explanations! I'm going to try those things the next time.

The reference for the list from FatRatKnight was a topic on the board. The faq from FatRatKnight does indeed cover the market and shipyards, and another covers the villages. A couple of the topics on the board cover a number of other interesting things from the game. I'm thankful that FatRatKnight was able to discern enough of my ramblings to extract the list in the previous post.

Again, thank you Mark!

Any information that I provide is based on the SNES version unless otherwise specified. I have thousands of hours into New Horizons and I have played it since it was released in the US on the SNES.

If you found "whales", then put the picture here, please. Download it and get the link through the website tinypic.com

One thing that might be of interest, especially if I understood it correctly, is that the image of your fleet (the ship that shows on the map) is actually taking up 4 spaces or tiles of the map. The game recognizes the ship as occupying one tile, but we see the image that is taking up 4 tiles.

I think I have posted this somewhere, but when you use one of the instruments you get different levels of "accuracy". The Quadrant gives the long/lat with approx. +/- 6 for each. The Sextant gives the long/lat with approx. +/- 4 for each. The Theodolite gives the long/lat with approx. +/- 2 for longitude and latitude. Plus or minus 2 is usually close enough for most positions, but there are some instances when you need to be on a specific tile. It can sometimes be difficult to hit the mark in those cases. It is just something to be aware of, that sometimes you may need to jog the ship a little to hit the actual spot you need to be in. Again it's rare, but be aware.

By the way, and I'm having such thoughts. Because the cost of different items, probably, the quality of the measurement is also different. In some versions of new Horizons theodolite and no quadrant, is on sale only a sextant.

Pavel Sizintsev, did you take lessons to be a pain in the rear end, or does it come natural? I'm not going to bother getting an account with tinypic.com. I'll bet it's useless to me unless I play a game of New Horizons by emulator instead of with my old tube TV and Sega set when I can. And emulators have only the Super Nintendo version available, which I say has a more tin-tone version of the same background music. I'm not going to put up with long periods of that kind of irritation for anyone. Are you sure you're really leveling with me about making your best effort to follow the recipe I described? You're not playing games because you're hung up on me being the one to show images? You're the one who's shown a knack for that so far. Since I saw no images of the one called "dense fog" so far, I think it stands to reason you haven't hit that one yet. Results of that are always something like, "When the fog lifted, we noticed one of the ships had vanished. Fortunately, its captain was saved by one of the other ships." I know it's not nice to lose a ship now as might be necessary to see whales later, but I'm pretty sure that's the way it is. The way I usually deal with that is, I go well around Madagascar towards Goa first, and at its shipyard order a Dhow built, and name it the "Aruna"(after Goa's café waitress), then go to Southeast Asia to kill time till the Dhow should be finished, then back to Goa to pick it up, then to Madagascar's west coast aiming for 13 S X 42 E. Then,...awww, the ship I named to make the lady feel flattered is gone, but better that than the more valuable LaReales you can bet I'll have by that time as my main exploring/trading ships. Those special sea events are on a very strict "no dessert until you finish your dinner(be grateful if mama lets you skip the Giant Squid course)" policy. You must do at least most of one group of 10 before the next group of 10. That means if you start yourself a new game, and early in it do some carpet-art exchanging with Istanbul and Athens to get off to a decent start on money(which should mean affording a Theodolite is no problem), remember the syreen you've shown near Belgrade is nearby, and while you're in the 'hood, go there and lose 1/4 of your crew to her as part of your "dinner" and save that as parts of your results(you can recruit replacements for your crew in Istanbul or Kaffa nearby very soon after). Then go north and really make sure you have the St. Elmo's Fire(a.k.a. "Strange Light") near Ireland you've shown us, plus the syreen or mermaid near Stockholm, plus the Ghost Ship north of Bergen again, and save your game with those on your record(yes, it's easy to be reluctant to hit Ghost Ship again, because of the matter of Luck--but south of there is Antwerp, which has all 3 buildings needed to fix that, a Marco Polo Bank, a Round Earth Society, and a fortuneteller to confirm how you're doing. I hope elsewhere to post some more about that matter soon, actually). Then, really go have the well-known fire near Timbuktu, and the Manta Ray near San Jorge, and the Strange Light near Kalahari Desert(coordinates listed as 23 S X 13 E) all happen again, and save game with all that. And since that means your route from Northern Europe is going around Africa, get ready for the firey phoenix you've shown us between Mecca and Massawa again, and try dealing with Dense Fog south of that like I described I did. That should leave Giant Squid near Goa as the last of that first group of 10--and I think you could show us that and not regret it. First approach Goa from the south to make sure you don't trip it before saving, then save in Goa--or save your game nearby at sea if you prefer--then hit Giant Squid("Fortunately, the ships and crew were unharmed, but the captain and the mates were overcome with terror") and get the image for everybody, but then load your game to recent saved position, and you can still play for yourself as if your guys never lost their Courage to that lousy kraken-thing. That would mean you're still saving with 9 out of 10 of that first group, and that should be a workable ratio. Then you may go for that Ghost Ship near Santo Domingo you've shown us before, even though it means a reason to fix your Luck again(Santo Domingo has all 3 buildings needed, Bank, Round Earth Society, and Fortuneteller). And while you're in the New World, get the Tornado that's also in that 2nd group of 10 near the Yucatan Peninsula, with coordinates listed as 17 n X 94 W(it robs you of tradable goods, and is harmless if you had no goods in the first place. I myself like to buy a paltry 10 Fish from Jamaica or Santo Domingo nearby, and watch it vanish as a demonstration). And there's another Tornado in the same group of 10--one you've already shown the image of looks to me like it must be the one in the Bay Of Bengal, coordinates listed as 21 N X 89 E.(I like to buy 10 Flax real cheap in India in anticipation of that one, then go east towards the Southeast Asia region near the coast, and see the Log Of Goods turn empty after). It's probably best to also get as many others as possible in that 2nd group of 10 before going by New Zeland looking for your first Whales, so I recommend while on that course get ready to lose a ship first to each of 2 more "Dense Fogs". I know that part will really be a royal pain, because they're so far apart, but they're both members of the 2nd group of 10. One is listed as 0 S X 117 E(near Celebes Island where the Stone Buddha may or may not be this time), and the other is listed as 16 S X 82 W( between the supply ports of Callao and Mollendo). I really figure, though, your best chance of catching whales is if you sail all the way across the Pacific and back as necessary to finish those two and save results(you can try looking in Malacca or Hanoi for a cheap used ship to be "cannon fodder" to vanish instead of one of your more valuable ships in anticipation of the one, and such a used ship from Guatemala or Panama soon before the other). Then after that near the New World, all the way back to Asia, and go south. One image you've shown me looks like it must be the Manta Ray near Australia, a good cut north of where you might or might not find the village for the Koala(listed as 23 S X 151 E). Another image you've shown looks to me like somehow you missed knowing it, but you hit and lost Courage to the Giant Squid on the north side of New Guinea island(listed as 1 N X 135 E). Since there's 1 and only 1 Giant Squid in each group of 10, you can probably skip saving with that in your results and still get your other 9 out of 10, but I wouldn't try to skip any more than that. If you also didn't forget the Fire Bird in the Amazon, and the Strange Light south of supply port Montevideo(listed as 52 s X 73 W), by now you should be ready to see Whales. And if you do, after that, the 3rd of 4 groups of 10 should be pretty well opening. Only then is it a good idea to look for ones like another Strange Light nearer the Siberian supply port of Dikson than any other port, a whales encounter not very far south of Nome, and another Mermaid stealing some of your crew by Newfoundland(members of the 3rd group of 10). That's the kind of dedication it takes to be prepared to show us all of them, do you understand? Now if this isn't telling you enough that soon you'll have an image of Dense Fog and Whales to show for everyone here, I'm still not going to get an account with Tinypic.com. I'll prefer to find an app called "What's with Pavel?"
