I read in another forum, that you could build heavy galleons in Argin and Algiers as long as they were developed to 1000/1000. I have done this but I do not have the option of building these. I am playing on the genesis as Otto Baynes. Can somebody advise me as to whether I can build galleons, what I will have to do to build them and where at.

I dont know about that kind of special galleons, but I usually invest in Antwerp until they build a fantastic battle ship called "full-rigged ship" or something like that. This ship is amazing. It can carry 500 men anda 150 cannons. Is the best kind of battle ship I know in the game.

i think some versions call it one thing while another version calls it something else. i remember playing the heavy galleons and i know it was built from one of the dutch ports and i am currently playing the sega version and after 1000/1000 economy rating antwerp builds the ships called full rigged ships as someone has mentioned and it might have the same stats as a heavy galleon (or even might be the heavy galleon). either way as long as you have the star quality weapons and armor having all those men on the ship is a waste of food. with 240 men on my five full rigged ships i go around chasing parites with 320 crew and can take them out by duel. if i had the same amount of men they had i could win by boarding and cannon fights too.

"Heavy Galleon" was the wording of a ship name only in the original "Uncharted Waters," the prequel game by KOEI that came out before "Uncharted Waters: New Horizons," the one this set of forums is supposed to specialize in. And by my reckoning, the first was vastly inferior. Only one character from one country, instead of a choice of 6 characters from 6 countries. And, more important than that, the controls at sea were clunkier in the first game, and sailing from continent to continent was much more difficult. U.W. 2, or "New Horizons," has 4 secret possible ships, depending on getting just the right port each to 1000/1000: 1.) FRIGATE. Similar to a Galleon, with a bit more max crew and mobility, but I've found in practice it's no more useful. 2.) FULL-RIGGED SHIP. The hardest-hitting one there is, but to maneuver it decently in combat requires outlandishly high sailing level. Two of them amidst a mixed fleet with 3 Venetians and 2 La Reales is probably a better bet for winning battles than all Full-Riggeds. 3.) BARGE. Not quite as hard-hitting as a Full-Rigged, but at 450 max crew and 120 possible guns, still tough to handle for Khyar Ad-Din and Idin Leis. Less outlandish level requirements to really maneuver, instead of wallowing like a garbage scow, than a Full-Rigged. 4.) TEKKOUSEN. No more than 300 crew(unless you're lucky enough that a used one is available, which for some reason has 360 crew as long as you don't mess with its load capacity) and 100 guns, but in practice probably the best bet. Manuverability is excellent for such large warships.

A minor correction, unless my memory fails me, the used Tekk has 80 guns which I find to be plenty. I often have a used Tekk for my flagship, since it is the ship that is going to take the most damage in battle - and I like the 360 and 80.

Any information that I provide is based on the SNES version unless otherwise specified. I have thousands of hours into New Horizons and I have played it since it was released in the US on the SNES.

All these ships were not available for a long time (this can be turned on and the sloop, but it is not a "heavy"). Playing for Catalina at the end of the story you can find Joan with a fleet of 10 frigates. All this then led to the idea that maybe the game has some hidden ships. And I began to look, start investing all ports. But since I started to Holland, these searches quickly justified. What surprise! Get this ship as the frigate was very nice. Then he was discovered and Tekkousen - a remarkable powerful and maneuverable. Nice also Atakabune. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Speaking of Atakabune, I played several games as Pietro where I sailed to Nagasaki right after leaving Lisbon. My main purpose was to bump up his levels and to obtain an Atakabune or two. The main problem is that the game doesn't like that and will often throw a storm at you before you can reach port (and that starting ship doesn't last too long in a storm). xD

"It's a storm!!" uh, where did my ship go? GAME OVER

Chaoyun 2K, if you just get a load of Glass Beads from Genoa and sell the in Madeira a couple times, or Sugar from Madeira sold in Santa Cruz, you should be able to afford not long after starting a few Balms from Bordeaux or Barcelona. That solves the storm problem. In my opinion, the greater problem with hurrying to get Atakabunes is, the side-effect of all those ports you'll discover along the way means you'll be pressured to get ready for Fame In Adventure missions real soon, unless you use those Atakabunes for significant Piracy action pretty soon.

Yeah, I decided the better strategy was to get the Cartography skill before I head out of the Med. area. Notice I said a few games, that was because even when I had the balms I didn't have a good enough mate to warn me of the storms soon enough.

It took a few tries, but I made it and you are right, the increase in trade fame could be a problem - but only if you stop at a port controlled by Italy. You won't be told about the ruler looking for you unless the port is controlled by the country you are allied with.

Last night I woke remembering a dream about playing this game, in which I discovered a fifth huge secret ship. I guess this is of little value, but I thought I'd spout it off to see if anyone's entertained. First, I had Ernst Von Bohr invest Santa Cruz to 1000, and saw Tekkousens available as new ship. I WISH I could get such for him in the real game long before the end of his story. But then, I looked at used ships, and I went "What?" when I saw a "Conjunction." Checking and selecting it, I found its maximum crew was 1020, and the shipwright said, "This is actually several ships taken apart and put back together into one enormous ship. Will ye buy this one?" I gave a "yes," and got, "This will cost ye 500,000 gp, is this OK?"(50 gold bars!). I said no, Antione Fitch my bookkeeper said, "I think he'll accept as low as 45 ingots." But had only 33. Press button B to negate. "Changed your mind, eh?" Seemed kinda funny to me, wish that could really be done with the game.
