In the strait, Earsterly winds (Levanter) predominate. Outside the strait, the wind is either North-East or South-East and become Easterly as you enter and gets stronger at the narrowest part.
This same Easterly wind bring excessive moisture resulting in heavy dew, local clouds, a hazy and foggy atmosphere and sometimes rain.
When the wind increase, violent eddies(1) are formed inside the rocks (there are dangerous rocks on the inside of the strait). Violent winds can be from opposite sides in distances as short as 50 yards. The ups and downs of the eddies sometimes causes whirlpools which makes navigating ships extremely dangerous. The strait is often covert in a cloud that stretches up to 1.5 km long.

That gives us a totally different view of the Strait of Gibralar don't you think?

Now imagine leaving the port of Ceuta and being pursued by Khayr-ad Din while crossing the Strait with a fleet.

The edit button is a nice feature. I just found this interesting map and I just added the link to complete my little editorial.

That's awesome! It looks like it could have been tough to navigate.

PS: I think you meant "covered", not "covert". ๐Ÿ˜‰

Any information that I provide is based on the SNES version unless otherwise specified. I have thousands of hours into New Horizons and I have played it since it was released in the US on the SNES.
