So I was playing the SNES as Ernst and I keep having one boat that looses its crew on every voyage, I've tried leaving the ship, using rat poision, and lime juice. And I keep losing 80% of the crew in two days. Can anyone help?

My guess would be that your rations setting is horrible.

95% on both food and water is probably a happy medium. On the NES you could get away with much lower numbers... not so in UWNH :).

You might be able to venture lower, but I just leave it around that and eat the cost of food as part of the business plan. Money is relatively easy to acquire so it's not that big of a concern.

The problem is if (as said) your ration distribution were set too low, some of your ships's crew would start losing 'health' (see the health bar in ship view) and later the crew dies and that slow ship will affect the rest of the fleet's speed.

to counter you would:
- go into cargo-management and transfer as much of your food and water to that ship.
- and transfer healthy crew from other ships to it.

If not that, you need to give us more info - list the ship's statistics; cargo and captain.

You may want to dismiss all of your guys, and hire fresh crew in the cafe. This has worked for me in the past.

Also do you have food on board that ship as well?

At the game default ration level: 1 man will take 1 unit of food and water per 10 days of sailing. So if you have 100 men on your ship, 100 food units and 100 water units will last 10 days each.

I've found that when hiring crew members - you should only hire them in ports with high ratings in their economy. Those found in small ports, that haven't been invested in or even allied with nations, tend to seem to... Abandon ship? In the middle of the ocean...? Or just die off (I've had this happen even when my rations are set at 95+) They are also appear to me to be weaker in battle - you'll find even if you set your Combat Crew at 100% you'll only be fighting with say a portion of your men. (This is all only conjecture based upon my experiences with the game.)

When talking to sailors at cafe/inn some will offer advice as to where you can hire good crew - I only go to these ports to hire, or to capital ports.

additionally, if your crew is set too low to move the ship (number shows up in red) than this causes fatigue, overworked crew dies, quickly

Rat poison is a means from крыс, which occur by the ships in case of old navigation, approximately 54-63 days. It is necessary to notice, that rat poison is an inefficient means, he badly helps and it is necessary simply преобрести the cat. For example, in port Mecca. Costs(stands) only 2000 gold. With the cat by the ship rats will never not disturb any more. The dying people are necessary for dismissing in any port and to type(collect) new in cafe. Rations in any case should be 100 %, yes there is no necessity to torment by famine the command(team). Lime juise is intended for accumulation of navigation by a command(team), he helps longer to hold on in navigation, sometimes there were cases for 100-120 days...
