Post Letter of Marque

First of all, what a great web site. Finally a place to discuss one of my favorite games of all time. I am hoping somebody will be able to answer some questions about a letter of marque from your king. According to the description "It authorizes the bearer
to commit acts of piracy against other countries, in the name of COUNTRY". Piracy without this letter affects only your friendship with countries. Does piracy with a letter of Marque affect your countries relations with other countries? If so, should I only attack countries that my king already dislikes, or should I just attack everybody and make everyone hate my home country? Or, does the letter only improve my relations with my own country. In my current game, Portugal hates me at -100 but Hollands relationship with them is still positive. I would love to get my home country behind me to go to war with portugal also, but I do not know if this is possible. OR, is there any other means to affect country to country relations? So far as I can tell, I can only affect my own relationship with the other countries.

Thanks in advance for your help. Any advice would be great.

The Letter of Marque improve only your relations with your country. If you attack a fleet with the Letter, you relationship with your country will rise. I tried too to make war between some countries, but it not worked, looks like the relationship with countries are ramdom.

I am relatively new to hacking and editing, but I am currently searching for a way to change country to country relations. Some of the current relations in the game just don't make sense. For example, if Italy hates Turkey and Turkey hates Italy, if I play as Otto and start decimating either the Italians or the Turkish, and I have a letter of Marque, then England's relationship with these countries should shift, even if only a point or two. If any knows of any way to change country-country relationship, please let me know.

I've readed that tutorial about hexedit the savegames. I will see if I can change country to country relationship there. If I find something, I will post it here.

Well, I din't found the strings to change nation to nation relationship, but, when I started my piracy with a Letter of Marque (hexediting the items), my country to country relationship changed on every attack I've made. I played as Ernst, and I've attacked 2 English fllets (a merchant and a battlefleet). I also made an alliance ith the Oslo and Stockholm ports (English ports at beggining of game). After that, Holland started a war agains't England; the Dutch Governor-Geral started to ask me to destroy the English fleet (and the Dutch relationship with England felt down to 1).

of course the relationship can be edited!

in my save game, for example Ali, the relationship rate between Ali and Turkey is 100 and with other countries all -100.

all can be done with hex editing. i even finished the catalina erantzo's main quest with duke rank!

i'm in my office right now, but i promise to upload the all 6 saves tomorrow, so you all could determine the hex code. the saves are in my computer at home.

well, i'm sorry i lost my save game so it took me sometime to start the game from beginning, but here it is:

(PC Version) you can download the save game (koukai2.dat) in a zip file. just extract it.

http://www.riandarmata.com/koukai2.zip (48 kb only)

you can determine the hex string for relationship there. note that the save game only contain 5 completed scenarios, excluding Joao, which i haven't finished yet.

all completed scenarios only need 1 step before the ending.

i don't think you can use wordpad to do hex editing. you must:

1. get a hex editor. just find one that suits you. i myself use hackman editor.
2. hexadecimal also suits you
3. have a lot of free time to do some trying

mastering hex editor and hexadecimal really worth it, especially for editing savegame. remember, cheater always prosper. 😉
