I like Joao Franco because of the first UW Leon Franco..and the old sailor was still in the game. Correct me if I'm wrong. I love the story line from Joao than the other charachters in the game. 2nd will be Ali..I love investing ports and make sure my capital have a lot of alliance. I've been playing this game since the 90s. This is the best game in the world and I grew up playing it even though till today i completed the game..i just got hooked up with it. UW2 is better because I can play it longer.

Yeah I definitely like the 2nd one better myself and I think that probably holds true for most fans out there.

It's kindof ironic, I suppose, but whenever I was much younger and first got this game as a present when it was new in the box, I complained because it was not what I wanted for a present. Then after I had calmed down a little, I loaded it into my SNES and gave it a whirl. At first I found it frustrating and didn't understand some of the concepts and I had a very difficult time with storms before I finally discovered it best to just wait them out by docking somewhere on land...but over time I grew to love the game and appreciate it. In my opinion, it is one of the most in-depth, fun, non-linear games ever made.

Glad to see there are so many fans of it out there. 🙂

Nice looking site here! Props to developer!

I started playing this game again a couple of days ago, haven't played it for years. I was up till 5 in the morning! This and Fallout2 are two games I've beat 10+ times. Damnit why haven't Koei release a new version in the U.S.

Heres the long and short of it:
(1) they've been too busy working on their mulltiple award-winning Romance of the Three Kingdoms and Dynasty Warriors games
(2) Koei never really was primarily interested in the US as a market
(3) Now they're busy working on UW as an MMORPG
(4) Koei is really a small company compared to a lot of the game developers out there today, so they strive for an excellance no-one else bothers with, and they seem to think only the Asian market really appreciates what they do. In the US, only something like 75000 games from the Koei label were purchased, whereas in Asia the figures were in the hundreds of thousands per title. Now --and i'm not saying I agree with this entirely, but I do understand the concept-- which would you rather do? Sell 75000 games to the US and pay craploads in import taxes and shipping fees? Or stick to the Asian market where there are no taxes on Asian goods and shipping fees are marginal? It all has to do with profit margins, and if you've ever played the Romance or Dynasty series games, you've surely noticed Koei wasn't alone in the developement process, rather had US funded assistance. UW2NH was a purely Koei project from concept to completion, and so were many of the other games we never even saw in the US. Koei is and always was a Japanese developement company, and the Japanese never really liked us much to begin with. So there you go.

Yup, that sounds about right. It sucks, but thats the reality is that the sheer quantity and quality of the console game industry in Japan supercedes that in the West by a lot and has done so since the early 1980s. As a result we can only hope to get as much games as they're willing to give us!
