Post Ernst story help

Alright, I beat each of the stories like a decade ago. Just whipped out the ole SNES and decided to give each story another try.
I'm having a problem with Ernst Von Bohr's story.

I've completed the map.
I'm a Marquis. (two of the special treasure hunts)
I have 36565 exploration fame.
Hans has suggested that I get married. (which was after about a year of sailing randomly around the world and delivering letters)
It's been about 4 months since that, and I've visited all of the Far East ports.

I can't seem to trigger the next part of the adventure, and I'm getting horribly bored! Is there something I'm doing wrong? Or anything I could do to make the story move a bit quicker?

Thanks in advance!

I sold some discoveries, hit Duke rank, and sold the rest of my discoveries.
Now I'm up to 50,000 exploration Fame and still nada.

When will the hurting stop?:S

When you say you've completed the map, you mean you explored enough of it to where they went ahead and gave you every single square of it revealed? (Just making sure)

Wow, it has been forever since I played as Ernst...he is my least favorite character. I've played a few times as him a very long time ago and remember being able to complete his story in a single sitting (albeit a very very long sitting)...for some reason I can't remember ever being suggested I marry so that came as a surprise to me.

I remember it being so simple...this question is going to bother me until either I or someone else finds the answer and posts it here 🙂

Yeah, there are a few boring stories, I deffinately love the fighters better than the explorers, but I figured if I'm dusting off the ole SNES I might as well make the most of it.

Yeah, as you sail around, Hans hints at marraige quite often.
After I hit Duke rank, the cut scene actually talks about Paula getting married to a Duke.
Then I got a different and much more direct message from Hans basically telling us to get married.

Still no Zipangu line.

Guess that's what I get for letting my 7 year old son pick out the character to play.

Oh yeah, I have gotten the entire map revealed, which you'd think they'd incorperate better into the game. You go back to Mercator and he just wants more info, but you can't give him any more info. And if I remember right, the end game story talks about you exploring the world to finish your map or some such....but it's already done. And I remember that you find Paula's homeland, which she's been searching for for her entire life, and then she leaves the same day to go sailing around the world some more with you. "Hi mom, hi dad, it's nice seeing you after 20 years of being lost...but well, we really have to get moving before the tide rolls out. I know it happens every day, but I'm just itching to get back to that rat infested, disease carrying raft that my husband calls a boat."
Of course the end game cutscene/story for Otto this time had a part of the story I completely skipped, but it was major enough that I remember having to do it years ago. I just started laughing when the game told me I had done some major side quest with another of the main characters, but it never happened.

HA! Very good

Well, I really don't know what to say about your story line completion there, but I wish you the best. Hopefully someone on here can answer the question...I probably could have in my younger years because I specifically remember finishing the game as Ernst at least 2 or 3 times.

By contrast, I've probably finished the game with the other characters upwards of 7 or 8 times...don't really go for Ernst all that much...like you say, he's not the most fascinating character of the bunch.

that happened to me to while I'm playing Conti. That is because we discorver lands too fast (because we love roaming round the world/adverturous) and the story of the game will stuck when u reach 34000+ adventure points and there is no other lands to be discovered..that is why the story got stuck..and the only thing you got to do is get fame points on piracy/trade. but i suggest piracy would be a better suggestion. to prevent the story to get stuck is to go slowwww..and follow the story as it goes. like step by step or somethin' heh.

i got stuck on my conti and i was at fame points 34000++ and i discovered the whole world. no rank yet. but whenever i go to meet the king, the king would ask me to go around the world to discover things for him but every discovery had been discovered n sold. so i cant grant the Kings wishes. what i did was to either decline his offer (that would reduced greatly on your fame points) or get more fame points on Piracy...after you get a rank/points the story would come back for Conti where it supposed to be. my explanation sucks lol but i guess you know what im trying to say here.

I looked up Ernst story on a faq at gamefaqs.com. It said once you have completed the map that Hans will say something about wanting to see Zipangu. When he does, sail to Zeiton or Hanoi and that will open the ports around Japan and the one where Palua lives. I hope this is helpful. 🙂

okay, I know this is a little late compared to your posting, but just in case you haven't solved the problem, after you get the message from Hans about you and Paula taking the vows, you should really start visiting every port you come across until Hans says he'd like to see Zipangu. It's that simple. Just start landing at every port, especially those along east africa and the middle east, even india, since it's usually somewhere in that area where you get the final quote. Also, it's really not a good idea to accept Holland's governor general's quests. Ernst doesn't need rank to do anything since he's just an adventurer, and it really doesn't benefit him any at all to give away his discoveries for no good reason. Personally, I've finished his scenario in about 540 days of game time, and it takes that long to map the world with a good, fast ship, but you have to be at 40 k plus to get Hans to suggest going to Zipangu. In fact it's like that in all the scenarios. The characters have to be at better than 40 k exp to finish any story line, and really, the only characters that depend upon rank are Otto and Ali, so it's better just to ignore requests from your ruler. It's not a vital part of the game, and it hurts most of the characters in the long run, but Otto gets rank by kicking the crap out of the spanish, and Ali can use his rank to get better prices on trade goods as well as Tax free permits-- not to mention crap-loads of extra gold ingots for free and even some ships you can sell for cash. For Ali it's really sort of a must if you hope to make the best profits, but no-one else really gains any benefit. Hope that helps.
