Okay, I'm getting really bummed out here, so I'm posting this in hopes that SOMEBODY will be able to help me fix this problem.
I have a desktop PC that runs Windows XP Pro with service pack 2, which does NOT support EMS(dos) memory, so I can't simply set the ems memory tab to either 10240 (which does work on my neighbor's windows xp home ed.) or to auto and be able to play Jaio, Catalina or Otto. No matter what I do I always get the same message [memory allocation error, cannot execute COMMAND]. I've noticed that, here on the forum, some others have the same problem, and I've found a suggestion to run the program using dosbox, but I can't figure that out at all. Can someone please give me a reasonable solution to this vexing problem? I like playing Ali well enough, but after maxing his stats and dominating the globe with Ten Tekks, Ten Full rigged ships, and Ten La Reales to choose from, plus carrying around 9999 gold ingots so every pirate in the world hunts me down everywhere I go (not that that bothers me, cause I just blow their scrawny asses out of the water anyway) it's getting a little old. I don't like Pietro at all, and Ernst's story just plain sucks, but I can remember playing Jaio and Catalina in the SNES system, and I always liked them, so it'd be nice to play them again. Otto doesn't matter to me, but I'd like to play the others and they require duelling, which you can't do without EMS memory on the PC.
I admit I'm PC stupid, so I'm willing to try almost anything. If I could figure out that dosbox system, maybe that'd help, but I just don't get it and I can't make it recognise my UW2Nh file as a valid command path to play the game. I Need help, Please. If I don't solve this problem soon, I'm likely just going to quit playing this game all together no matter how much I love it. Uncharted waters rocks, and i've loved it since it was first released back in 94, but the frustration level is starting to get to me.  :pinch:  :side: 👿
In fact, I've had my finger on the delete button for quite a few days now. HELP!!!!!!!

You might not like this, but my best advice is to run the SNES version (downloadable from this site) and use a good emulator...you will have no problems if you do that.

Personally, I have the SNES cartridge of the game, so I've never really messed around with the files too much. But they're here just to serve the community; I originally obtained them from the community's former "owner" Leonid.

But now since I started heading the group, I made this site and message board to kindof ween people off the mailing list (that wasn't being used much anyway) and get people on something a little more modern.
