I read a tip on a different site that said if you visit a port with a maxed out economy at exactly 4:00 AM it will always offer carronades and the goddess figure head. I tried this out but i kept getting my AM time at 4:20 and it wasn't true. Anyone know if this does hold true exactly at 4:00AM.. it might just be antwerp and hamberg.

I have not heard of this but I know that if it were true, then you would HAVE to go there at EXACTLY 4am...not a minute later. The game works on precision like that.

i have read several FAQ's and quides and all have diffent ways to get the extra items. some are saying luck plays a part. the only way they mentioned to check was with the fortune teller, and her replies she says to you... then if you have a high level of luck the extra figure heads and cannon are more likely to be there. the FAQ at http://www.gamefaqs.com helped a fair bit.
have u sucseeded in getting the carronades and how did u? ive been trying for ages....

and on another note, are u guys aware that on the pc version you can turn off the graphics delay so everything runs faster. its in options in the game itself. you may be aware of this but i only discovered this website recently and was just wanting to let u know....
thanks

Jim, If you invest 51% of the gold you have on you to the christian or muslim people your luck will go up about 10pts. Id recommend keeping a low stack of gold on you while doing this or else you will be spending A LOT. I get my luck all the way up after investing in Hambug and Antwerp. Once both of their industry and economy is up to 1000 randomly carronades and the goddess/angel figureheads are available. it takes me a day or two to get the option of carronades after repeatedly walking in and out of the shipyard. The Goddess figureheads seems to take a little longer.

Yeah, I can't imagine anyone playing with the graphics delay on. too bad its not like those old IBM's where you can press Cntrl-ALT-Esc and it will give you a systems menu where you can speed up the game even more. I'm not sure if this was caused my overclocking the cpu or if it just sped up the instruction delays. anyways, Hope this helps.

On the SNES version, which is the only version that I have ever played, the time at which you walk into the shipyard is irrelevant. The 'ship salesman', for lack of a better term, will sell you the Angel and Goddess figureheads and the Carronade guns at any time of the day provided the following criteria are met, and even then, it's random. The economy in Antwerp must be invested to a full 1000. And your personal luck rating must be 100. Luck is a hidden charactoristic rating that can be increased, as far as I have experimented, only by donating money to the Round Earth Society (SNES version). In order to increase your luck, you have to invest at least 51% of your cash into it several times until the fortune teller says "What a fortune!!! You have nothing to fear in this life". Once the fortune teller tells you that, you're set. All you have to do at that point is make enough money spend 50000 on each Goddess figurehead you need and go back to Antwerp to purchase them.
Contrary to Nick's comment, you don't have to walk out of the shipyard. All you have to do is the following: Remodel - Figurehead. If he doesn't say "We have a great selection today", then ask him again, then again and so on... Walking out of the shipyard everytime would become even more time consuming than this way which is somewhat time consuming on its own.
Getting the Angel figurehead is easy, probably 1:5 attempts.
Getting the Goddess figurehead is somewhat more difficult, probably 1:60 attempts.
Getting the Carronade guns is just as easy as aquiring the Angel figureheads, probably 1:5.

If anyone is wondering why I choose Antwerp over Hamburg, it's because I want a real figurehead and real guns. If I choose to run a fleet for laughs, I would order up some Mcfigureheads with a side order of Carronade fries from the shipyard in Hamburg.
Get it???

Hope this helps, god knows I spent enough time thinking that one up.

I usually just donate one time per game......

Start out with $65,536 which is 2 raised to the 16th power

donate 50%, donate 50%,..... until it's all gone

After doing this once, I have enough luck to carry me through the entire game and I have no trouble getting carronades and angels

Goddesses are another story, as I play the SNES version and they seem to be extremely hard to come by.

Thank you to everyone who posted in this thread...I feel like a total idiot, as someone who has played both UW and UWNH for ages on the SNES (and more recently, the SNES9X emulator with the game roms) I thought the best figurehead in UWNH was the Angel, and the best guns were the Cannons. I am glad to see I was wrong, you've just opened "new horizons" (pardon the pun, lol) for me in my gameplay experience!

Ditto re: luck and the New Earth Society. I do have one question though, regarding the 51 percent of all your money: does this include the money you have stored away in the bank? Like if I have 1 million gold in the bank, and 100,000 gold on my person, will 51,000 gold to the New Earth Society do the job??

Thanks in advance for your reply,

Fondly,

Raquel 🙂

I believe you only have to donate xx% of the money you have on hand. Perhaps there is a minimum amount.

Also i'm not really sure about that Round Earth thingy... I think I had games where I never use donate anything (cheap ....) or only invested in (many) towns and still got those better items.
Perhaps when progressing in game (after xx years + experience) you will be at max luck as well, and get the stuff anyway.

Even then it is indeed random for the shopkeeper to show you the models. Sometimes he only has the guns or foreheads btw. So just bug him again for a milion times untill ya get them. :p
