i typed out this whole 'development speach' the other day, but i can't find the textfile now :s
For now i'll stick to telling you about version 0.1

[if you visited there already today you may want to clear your browser cache/cookies to refresh the page completely.]
To run the game, simply extract the zipfile to a folder of your choise, then run the executable.
take note that only a few ports are 'active' & use <enter> to get on/off ships. 'Esc' to quit/save.
you my find pirate encounters - its simply based on the old 'pirates!tm' - the 2 captains will dual it out.
Same for attacking caribbean ports. just remembered, only caribbean ports may be attacked. i was thinking of having the caribbean work like pirates: <attack to take over>
& the rest of the world's ports like uncharted waters: < investments>
you may also notice that you can only enter capital ports in "uncharted water's style"
[simply cause it would take years to develop each port..]
not much going on in the capitals yet...
Development:
i'll have a whole list of issues ready by wednesday - tomorrow's our year-end function, then you lot can start helping.
To be able to edit anything you would need to download a copy of 'rpg maker 2003'
[i know there's a new version out, but its combat system works different]
The port-code is finished, however, it requires a lot of copy/paste/edit;
eg. you can copy havana [caribbean]'s event/code & paste it on the port of Tortuga, then you simply would need to change all the variables in that code from '0001:havana' to '0005:tortuga'...
easy, just a lot to do since you need to edit 5+ pages on each encounter because of the different countries.
if everyone could just do one port & mail me the event, i can put it all together nicely in the next version. i'll put a set-by-step tutorial or something up soon.
Investments work, you can see port's alliances change, but no money is yet removed from the player. therefore Algier's investment code needs work.
