I enjoyed the game from the start, and there have been a few updates since then.

I had to have a little help from one of the play testers before I could get very far into the game. It seems that the first trip to South America is usually the longest and hardest. The tip that helped me was to build enough houses in the first colony to allow the expedition to "inhabit" the colony. That allows the expedition to forage food without starving for a while. When possible build farms and they will produce enough food that you can explore or return to Palos.

Anyway, it is still being developed and it keeps getting better. Not everyone will like the game, but that can be said about every game.

Any information that I provide is based on the SNES version unless otherwise specified. I have thousands of hours into New Horizons and I have played it since it was released in the US on the SNES.

For most people you want to download the Java Package which is about 25MB because most computers will have the latest Java. If you go to the Java site you can test your Java and tell if you need to up-date that and download that from there if needed. Then download the multi-platform java package for expedition.

I usually just unzip to an expedition folder, and that can be done inside a folder on the hard drive or even to C:/expedition if you like.

I forgot that I had to launch 0.4.1 using a bat file which is part of the unzipped files. The updated graphics will be used if you find the "expedition-denzi-windowed.bat" file and create a shortcut or double-click that file. I created a shortcut and put that on my desktop with my other icons.

On my computer, with resolution 1024x768 even the windowed loaded as full screen (I have a small screen). I changed the resolution to 1152x864 to get a windowed screen.

Does any of that help?

I'm not sure if I'm supposed to mention this, but another option would be to go to:

http://slashware.net/blog/labs/

On that screen near the top is this:
(Click here to go to the games lab)

Click there and that takes you to another screen and on the left hand side (under some game images) you can see the "Main Menu". The second option under that is "Downloads" and clicking that brings up a box to the right where you can click on one of the topics like "Old Versions" or "Latest Releases". If you click there I'd recommend version 0.3.1 which doesn't have the graphics update, but it launches from a "jar" file and is the next best version to 0.4.1 in my opinion. Umm, don't bother with 0.4.0, seriously.
