I don't suppose any of you lads have heard the word of Spore?
Best place for info is the Gaming Steve Omnibus topic I suppose. Here.

But if you want a general idea of what Spore is, there's the guide.

I figured this was mildly relevant to the site. You see, when you get to the later phase of the game, you get a UFO. With this UFO, you can go out and explore the vastness of the entire universe.
This appeals to be because I love exploring.
In Spore, you begin as a single-celled organism. You swim around in the primordial ooze, eating stuff smaller than you and avoiding other little floaty things that try to hurt you.
As you eat, you kind of gain a level. You enter an editor screen and get to modify your organism.
After several generations of this, you've scaled up in size. As an actual solid little creature, you venture forth to the shores of the land.
Once again, you eat and work to gain points and grow. In this phase of the game, you need to find a mate and have offspring to advance.
Your eggs are laid, and the next generation is available. You may now entire another editor wherein you are adding a whole new set of parts to an actual creature. Give it legs, arms, mouths, eyes, claws, and all kinds of extra little details.
Pick a color, texture, and skin pattern (stripes, spots, etc.) and exit.
After some more generations of that, you will have recruited a little tribe. Working together in gathering needed resources and clearing the area of all threats, you will eventually develop into a city.
After tribal phase, the city phase. Now you have a little settlement to develop.
You now have the building and vehicle editor available. Buildings for places your creatures can work and live in (certain types), and vehicles to go out and defend your city from the others that have developed around the globe.
After the city/civilization phase comes the space phase.
Save up enough cash and you will be able to design and build a UFO with which to venture out and explore space. Colonize planets, build alliances with other species, or crush them with the sheer might of your UFO. Whatever.
There are a lot of things I have not explained.
Trust me, there's a lot of both underlying and very apparent features you will need to hear about.
Procedural generation and animation, massively single-player, pollinated content sharing, and more.
Find out what these things mean in those links I gave you, and do some investigating on your own.
The game is currently in development by Maxis under Will Wright and his team, creator of Sim City, The Sims, and such. It's also being published by EA, but not to fear! EA gives Will plenty of time and freedom to do whatever he wants, as he has very well established himself as a competent game designer and developer.
Thanks for reading.
