Ah, I see that it has been translated and I didn't realize that your post was that recent.

When I am building my fleet of Tekks I tend to run between the Japanese ports and Mombasa with a trade of silver and gold. This does require some investing, the Japanese ports to enable the Tekk ships and a little in Mombasa for the gold (if I recall correctly). I sell the gold in Nagasaki and Sakai to lower the general price index, order a new Tekk in each, buy the silver to sell in Mombasa and set sail. The round trip is just about the time needed for the new Tekk to be manufactured, so I pick up the new ships and repeat the process.

My battle fleets seldom have more than 4 ships and my trade fleet will have 10 ships. Now, if you gain world domination to the point of getting the 6.5 million gold from defeating a fleet, then is when you certainly want to finish battles as quickly as possible.

There is also the consideration of raising levels and stats. With a full battle fleet you can easily sink any flagship before all of your ships even get a turn, thus you gain less experience that way. Experience is gained when you reduce a crew to zero or when you sink a ship and is somewhat based on the ship size, meaning that the full-rigged ships give the most experience. The main character of course will gain experience from duels, but if you want to increase the levels of your mates then you will need to keep your flagship out of the way as much as possible. If the give orders worked a little better then you could control the experience better, but it doesn't so we work with what we have.

I agree, they are all good ships, but when trading in games without ready access to the Japanese ports or in the early going I prefer the Xebec over the Nao. As a rule I'm not in that position for very long, so I usually don't build a fleet of Xebec because I can get better ships soon enough.

Any information that I provide is based on the SNES version unless otherwise specified. I have thousands of hours into New Horizons and I have played it since it was released in the US on the SNES.

😀
" Unknown in game "

In game knowing much sometimes find the moments, which remain riddles. I shall bring examples:

1. Hanoi on battle(dashing) fleet (character Pietro Conti) was floating in area of port which consist from Venetian Galleas and Flemish Galleon. Has swum away in port, has bought delivery, and when has come up, has found out, that one of my navigators Ivan Soledad has left(abandoned) me without the prevention(warning) and has taken away with itself one of Flemish Galleon.

2. Sometimes fleet of the contender simply disappears from a map, when long be floating near to it(him). At this more often it we occur to fleet of Portugal and Italy. Before they can get off from the rate. There were cases, when the fleet of the contender disappeared, and then occurred in the other place having got off with a rate.

3. In port Bankao one of the passers - by informs to southern Asia secret of fire St. Elmo, about which he ostensibly heard much. What further to do(make) with this information - it is not clear. Also in port Massawa a certain passer - by speaks about затерянном to port Aksum, which would be interesting for finding.

4. In a case of very long game of one of the characters are confused day to night, and becomes not clear when day, when night.

5. In one of old preservations of game Otto Baynes has reached(achieved) a level 100 on "navigation" and "attack". Then has found out, what is it limit, in case of the further accumulation, the level will be dumped(reset) always on 100.

6. Has found out, that if to endow a plenty gold in ports on a science (500-1000 ingots of gold), the people in port become is cleverer and at meeting with it(him) begin to inform more interesting information.

7. To some characters, for example Muhomed Syarock never it is possible to create new fleet, and they sit in ports and wait, while them not arrange on job.

1. I can think of a few possibilities for this one, but it would seem most likely that it was one of those locations were ships disappear. These are often prevented with good figureheads, at least the dragon, but the angel or goddess figureheads would be even better. You don't get a chance to prevent those disappearances, but if you have a first mate and/or a chief navigator you should be informed of the disappearance. It could be possible that you actually got the port entry message first and it just ended the sequence without the disappearance message. I suppose it could also have been just a glitch.

2. If I understand this correctly, that sounds a lot like the first Uncharted Waters. Still, even in New Horizons I have seen AI controlled ships seem to sail through land and I think that is a known bug/glitch.

3. I wondered about and forgot about this a few times, the one in Bankao. I'm trying to play a pc version currently and I'll see if I can find out more. This may take some time because I am finding the controls a little awkward on the computer.
I'll also see what happens in Massawa, and I'm not sure because part of that didn't translate. I have often regretted that I didn't study more languages when I had the opportunity.

4. I'm not understanding this one, except the part about it being a long game. Is there more to this?

5. It has been a long time since I got a character to level 100 in sailing and in battle, and I think I quit right after achieving that goal so I can't think of anything regarding this.

6. I'll have to pay more attention when I enter ports because I usually avoid the people after the first visit to a port. Do you have any examples of the information?

7. Again, I'm sorry because I don't understand this. I have noticed that Syarock will take turns with the other two pirates, but he may skip his turn if you are trying to wait nearby for him. I avoid taking defeat pirate jobs because it seems that if you take one of those at the guild the pirates will stay in port until after the time limit for the job.

In business that never used figures for the ships. It is possible, that they influence good luck, and than more dearly(more expensively) figure, the better. Concerning the assistant of the captain and main navigator already I can not precisely recollect, and save is lost. Usually navigators leave, when are dissatisfied by the salary, and that it happens seldom and in the beginning of game. In this case before departure he about it informs, and in case of increase of payment - remains. Recently has read on any site, that the figures by the ships rescue from collision with sea monsters.
🙁 🙂
PC the version of game has seemed to me very boring and slow by way of development! Though the graphic registration there is better even if to take into account, that she works in system DOS.

I think to open new treasures, it is necessary first of all to have the maximal popularity in opening, that is 50000. In this case map of the world should be open completely, as for villages will not be typed(collected) so much. Having such development, is possible to address on turn behind a flag to all kings, you see if the attitudes(relation) with the country positive, the king always will give protection and will offer a title. It is possible, that once will be lucky(carry), and any governor to offer to look interesting.

In Massawa one of the passers - by informs about некотом forgotten port Aksum, which however earlier to me did not meet.

In case of long game the day is confused to night, and it is not clear, when it is possible to attack on the opponent..

There is an example of the information of the passers - by in Venice after couple of months, when I have presented them of 1,5 million gold. One advised receptions of conducting fight (during battle an option Order), another has informed, that for a command(team) parameter Rations will be optimum on 90 %, and the ships can more days hold on on water.

The pirate Syarock (in case of his(its) destruction) for some reason further does not try to hire a new command(team) and prefers to sit out in ports of Europe...

Now I play for Catalina Erantzo, the fleet consists from 10 Nao. By each ship till 80 men and 40 guns. I am engaged in trade, I drive from southern Asia ginder and cinamonn in Nagasaki, and from Nagasaki silver back in ports of southern Asia (Sunda, Banda, Ternate and others). Has noticed, that for gold and silver in southern Asia give as much of money as well as in Northern Europe. My modest fleet is capable to give fight to any dealer, and also it is possible to attack and the battle(dashing) ships of any country. Though the Europeans very seldom swim away so far. It is old save, in which even once was in a rank "duke" in Italy, but the attitudes(relation) with them has spoiled. One problem - in my game goes enmity with all countries in parameter 100, and one king starts up on reception and does not provide defend... I do not know as it is possible to lower enmity, as me do not want even to plunder, and that would be given not by(with) one million gold to get to the king.

Prompt, what it is possible to make? 🙁

Yes, mates that are not very loyal may ask for more money when you approach the harbor master in preparation to leave the port. I have never had a mate that was assigned as captain of a ship ask for a raise, but that doesn't mean that they are loyal.

There are a few ways for a ship to disappear while you sail: 1) in some locations mates disappear with a ship and I think there are at least 4 areas where this happens. This often happens to mates with a low luck stat and when there aren't any figureheads used. I think there may be more than 4 areas where this can occur. 2) When caught in a storm, ships captained by a mate with low stats is likely to sink. Sometimes the mate is able to swim to the safety of another ship in your fleet, but not always. 3) I'm not sure what to call the hazard near the north end of Madagascar, but you normally loose a ship when the mast "breaks". That one has a specific spot that you have to sail into, just like the other hazards of manta rays, firebirds, and others. I have mapped the locations of most of those hazards, that is I have noted the locations using a theodolite. 4) Mates that are disloyal will also disappear with a ship if you get into a battle situation, but that is a little different situation to the others I have noted.

The king or ruler will give you help as your ranks increase. In the early ranks the "help" is not very much, but in the higher ranks the help can be useful. If I remember correctly, once you have the rank of Viscount the king or ruler will give you a free Tax Free Permit anytime you need one. The king will have tasks for you to complete as your fame increases, and those are at specific levels of fame:
First rank at 500 fame
Second rank at 2000 fame
Third rank at 4500 fame
Fourth rank at 8000 fame
Fifth rank at 12500 fame
Sixth rank at 18000 fame
Seventh rank at 24500 fame
Eighth rank at 32000 fame
Final rank at 40500 fame

With that I have to go for now, but I'll be back in a little while.

To continue my thoughts, the main advantage of having ranks granted by the king or ruler is the discount you get from the market or getting help from the king or ruler. Ranks do not affect the price you pay for a ship, but the market rate does.

Fame in a characters story type will trigger events, for example Joao, Ernst, and Pietro need fame in adventure to advance their story and trigger events. Ernst only has two major events, but increasing his adventure fame does seem to trigger new comments from Hans when they approach the harbor master to leave a port. It can be annoying to hear the same comment over and over again and Ernst also has the situation that annoys me the most... He is a cartographer but he can't find certain ports until he has about 40,000 fame in adventure!! Sorry, I digress.

A character can gain the maximum fame of 50,000 in the other two types of fame without ever triggering an event, provided that the character never gains fame in their story type. That is almost impossible to avoid in adventure because you gain fame in adventure by discovering ports or villages even if you don't make and report the discoveries. Discovering all of the ports will gain around 9,000 fame so it would be easy enough to avoid the events that occur after that if you avoid reporting discoveries or map details to the collectors and to the cartographers until you are ready to advance the story.

The attitude of the other countries begins at neutral or zero and goes down if you attack their fleets or invest in their ports. The only way to get above zero is to gain ports for them, so I don't think it is possible to get all countries at a favorable 100. Defecting from a country comes with a large drop of either 40 or 60, so it would be possible to have a favorable relationship with every country but not a favorable 100. The only thing that might possibly do for you is that a countries fleet might voluntarily help you in a battle, but that depends on a lot of things happening just right. For one thing, the fleet would have to be in a location right next to you or the fleet you are attacking. This assistance can happen even if you only have a neutral relationship with a country.

The short of it is that you can only do favors for the country that you are loyal to, so the only way to do favors for another country would be to defect to that country.

Yeah, I have noticed that you can get new information but I don't think that it depends on how much you have invested. I think it is either based on the number of times you visit a port or just simply something that occurs after a certain amount of time which is what I think it depends on. If someone has more information about this, it would be great.

The quickest way to lower enmity with a country is to visit their home port at night and then attempt to enter the castle until you are caught and they take 80% of your gold. Of course you want to have your ships full of cargo and your gold as low as possible before doing this, but that is the quickest way to lower enmity. If you are caught by guards in a port allied with the country then they take a lot of your money, but it only lowers the enmity by 20 if I recall correctly. That is why I say that the easiest way is to be caught entering the castle because that lowers the enmity to zero if I recall correctly. If they actually let you see the ruler without catching you then you could defect to that country and it would lower the enmity.

I thought I should explain a little about these ranks:
First rank at 500 fame
Second rank at 2000 fame
Third rank at 4500 fame
Fourth rank at 8000 fame
Fifth rank at 12500 fame
Sixth rank at 18000 fame
Seventh rank at 24500 fame
Eighth rank at 32000 fame
Final rank at 40500 fame

These are the fame levels that trigger requests from the ruler and have no bearing on the character 's story unless the fame is gained in the area that also advances their story. For example, if you gain 500 fame in piracy then the ruler will want to see you for a task and completion of the task will get you a new rank. If you then gain 2000 fame in adventure the ruler will want to see you for another task and completion will get you another rank. The next time the ruler will want to see you is at 5000 fame and the task will depend on which type of fame you have the 5000 in and could be either of the three types.

Other events are triggered by fame depending on which story you are playing. For example, Ernst 's first event is triggered at 2000 adventure fame and a visit to your home port (provided you haven't defected). If Ernst has gained 2000 fame in piracy or trade instead, the ruler will want to see him for a task but his story event will not be triggered until he has 2000 adventure fame and visits Amsterdam.

There are two tasks that the ruler may want to have your character complete for either type of fame. One such task is to deliver a letter to another ruler and the other task is to make an alliance with another ruler. You may get one of these task regardless of the type of fame you have to meet the requirements that trigger the ruler wanting to see your character.

There are two other tasks that the ruler may ask of you that will depend on the type of fame that is the highest and triggered his request to see your character.

For adventure fame, the ruler may ask you to seek a treasure or he may ask you to make discoveries.

For trade fame, the ruler may ask you to get a product for him or he may ask you to invest in a certain number of ports. If the ruler ask you to invest in a certain number of ports, the task will only be completed once you have that many more allied ports than when he made the request. For example, if your ruler claims 28 allied ports when he makes the request then he will only acknowledge completion when there are 38 allied ports.

For piracy fame, the ruler may ask you to defeat pirates or to defeat a fleet from a certain country.

So, the ruler will ask one of four tasks from you depending on the fame that triggered his request to see you.

There is only one event triggered by completing the tasks that are requested by the ruler and that is when you reach the last rank there will be a short scene.

There are a few tasks that could possibly have no chance for success. One is if the ruler asks for discoveries and you have already turned all 50 discoveries over to the collector. I saved 6 discoveries in case that was his request and sure enough it was his request. I turned all 6 in and he wanted more (I don't know of any way to determine the number or quality of the discoveries needed to meet his request), so I was not able to complete his task because I had turned in the other 44 to the collector.

The second way to get a request that can't be completed is if you have 82 or more allied ports when the ruler asks you to ally with 14 more. That would require 96 allied ports and the maximum number you can be allied with would be 95 (including the home port).

The only way to avoid those situations entirely is to save before entering the home port when a request is forthcoming. You can know if one is forthcoming if you check your fame level.

Once I passed games for Ernst. His plot is rather simple, and requires(demands) patience in opening a map. Besides travel I began to carry out the assignments(order) of the king of Holland, which asked constantly to bring it(him) discovery of villages. For a title "duke" he has asked to find " a crystal of darkness ". Business that I in never was fond of opening of treasures. In cafe me have informed, that about a crystal knows Genry Machine, which I and have found at that moment. But playing for it was possible it(him) to employ other character, on job. It is the pirate with skill of "gun" and good navigator. In what port or what part of a map he a habit to live?

It was interesting to esteem about the categories of popularity of opening, as did not press in such details... There were cases, that the king asks to attribute(relate) the letter to the governor of other country while at me parameter of enmity with the country 100. I refused the assignment(order), and next time after a call the king any more did not give such assignments(orders).

On a site UWNH I have read that Fernando has collected a photo of the navigators and thus has forgotten 7 men. I long thought and has recollected only 6 navigators:
1. Louis Fareiro
2. Henry Machine
3. Ivan Soledad
4. Sabino Balboa
5. Robert Donahue
6. Ambrose Einger
Who would be desirable to know seventh? You were not set by such question?

And now I want to play in new horizons and to look for treasures. 😎

Mancine normally starts in the East African ports and can usually be found in that area. He does have the gunnery skill, but he is not a good navigator and I would not recommend recruiting him. You will need to treat in a cafe (pub) in that area for better information, and when you treat they may call him if he is in the port that you are in.

Usually you need to start the treasure quests in the guild of the home port, but it sounds like you got the information that you needed.

When you refuse a request from the king your fame will drop. In that case you have to gain your fame again before he will have more requests. A letter delivery is the easiest and quickest tasks he will ask, and it is one of the tasks that the ruler may want regardless of the type of fame you have.

I think those six are the only mates that start the game as vagabond sailors that you can recruit. The only other one that I could think that he might consider missing is Hamid Lal, but he is often a pirate in the New World. I only think that is the one missing because of comparing his list with another list that is very similar. He is another mate that I wouldn't normally recruit.
