I personally prefer the toughest ones where I'm not sure I'm going to make it. 😀

I've already tried using a few LaReale mixed with light galley successfully but I still have to experiment using pinnace and sloop against merchant fleets. Of course my favorite ships are the Atakabune and Tekkoussen because of their maneuverability during battle.

Anyway, I put a lot of images on Gamefaqs for the PC version when I was playing. In Joao's game, the last battle, I waded into those pirates with basically two ships ready for battle and the rest set up for cargo. I didn't pay any attention until I got the scene "NO! MY Fleet!" and then I noticed that my flagship had 3 hull left! (Khayr had blasted away at my flagship, which was a used Tekk and I took him out first...then I went for the other fleet). It was a lot closer than I knew.

Any information that I provide is based on the SNES version unless otherwise specified. I have thousands of hours into New Horizons and I have played it since it was released in the US on the SNES.

That's why I always make sure I have at least 10 cannons for my trade, and supply ships. The thing is that even though my other captains are loyal to me and I order them to fire at the enemy flagship, they will stupidly rush onto the first enemy in sight with 60 crew vs 320. 😀
They seem to behave better once they carry carronades.
That's why I wish they hadn't changed the battle mode and kept the same as Uncharted Waters where it was possible to control all the ships manually.
I defeated so many superior fleets by concentrating on the flagship.

Even though I'm usually prepared, I get caught (mostly in the Strait of Gibraltar) by Khayr or Idin once in a while at the beginning of a game and I'm totally helpless. 😮

Yeah I agree Igor, the most unsatisfactory part of UW2 is not being able to control the individual ships. Makes it more realistic I guess but I do miss the battle aspect of UW1. Manouvring thr ships to take out one ship after another was good fun in UW1 and there wasn't the need to worry about duels and capturing enemy ships... That's th3 only reason I am sometimes tempted to replay UW1.

I tried it earlier this year but I didn't enjoy it at all. I couldn't find my list of ports with most profitable items that I made years ago. Also the navigation is horrible and you only have one scenario. I didn't have to worry about the World map because I have a huge wall map right in front of me. 🙂 I did enjoy UW1 though during my NES days.

I remember I liked the music a lot in UW1.
