Nothing has changed. Probably, there is no meaning to endow the large sums gold...

You should have gotten a 10 point increase if you donated 51% of your money, but that would only be noticeable if you were near enough to change what the fortune teller says.

From the information posted by Greg on the first page, regarding figureheads and carronades, here is what she says if your luck is in certain ranges. She doesn't say anything else, so if you are near the low end of a range she will say the same thing after a 10 point increase. By the way, you will get the same results with small amounts (as long as you donate at least 100 gold) if you donate 51%.

0 – 24 “Oh. I see an ominous shadow across your face. You may be doomed to have a difficult life.”
25-49 “Your fortune doesn’t look very bright. Be careful, and watch out for accidents.”
50-74 “You have an average fortune. But remember, you are the one who carves your own destiny.”
75-99 “You have a good fortune. Have more self-confidence.”
100 “What a strong fortune! You have nothing to fear in this life.”

Any information that I provide is based on the SNES version unless otherwise specified. I have thousands of hours into New Horizons and I have played it since it was released in the US on the SNES.

That time, when I have offered of 100 millions gold, гадалка the average good luck has informed about "You have an average fortune. But remember, you are the one who carves your own destiny". Similar, that sum gold, endowed in a Round Society of the Earth here does not matter. And in general it is a pity. I often come to a conclusion, that in game there are no some details. For example, it would be interesting to buy to itself any building as a residence, or still something.

Yes, I have sometimes thought that it would be nice to have a building too. Maybe a warehouse or two where you could store goods or even items.

The good thing about raising luck is that you can raise it even when you don't have a lot of money. It does take at least 100 gold to raise luck, but if you only have 200 gold on hand that 100 gold is enough to raise luck by 10 points. You can't do anything about a mate's luck, so they are stuck with whatever they normally have.

It is an effective way. However, having high good luck I did not manage to see on sale last in the list a figure. Anyway it was on the emulator genesis.

1 thing though on the PC version I found that Catalina often starts with 0 luck and in terms of donation I think donation of 25 percent of total wealth is more cost effective as it raises your luck by about 6 or 7 points. The total wealth obviously includes bank balance also.

I tried to pinch pennies and borrowed 100 gc at a me to donate in installments of 25 percent at a time but as it is borrowed money ie total wealth is zero, it does not increase luck at all.

Also, donating small amounts can only get your luck up to 90+ percent and would require a 51% donation of a substantial amount to increase luck to 100. I think thay amount is about 2000 gc (hardly substantial except to an early game penny pincher like me). Haven't bothered t9 check using hex editor but perhaps the experts in game mechanics here can shed more light.

I've managed to do some testing on the SNES version and I think the results are floating around here somewhere, but I don't know how to do the same thing on the PC version. It took me a while to figure how on the SNES version (and someone else got me started when they found out the studying bit and how it affected luck).

The main character's luck is determined at some point in the game and there are even some events that will automatically set the main character's luck to 100 or some other number even.

Thank you Chaoyun2k. In the PC version I played Joao many times and I have never found my luck to fall after I get it to 100. I do not defect or plunder and I load game of I accidentally meet the luck sucking ghost ships. I read that the luck can change spontaneously but never encountered that.

I think that the spontaneous change was the prevailing thought before, but I have always used studying (praying in the PC version) to improve and maintain luck. It was someone else that determined that the main character's luck stat is set when you start a new game and can be in a range...I'd have to look up the range. Then, certain events/choices (especially early in the game) will give a main character a set luck stat.

I know Joao's event works in the PC version as well as the SNES version, if he makes a second visit to the Round Earth Society or (is it Church in the PC version?). If you refuse the money and choose the option to donate it back to them, his luck is then set to 100. You don't need to make any other donations.

Yeah, I've plotted two locations for those ghost ships in the SNES version and they reduce luck by 30 if you meet them.

It seems that any mate's luck is a set stat and is not affected by anything in the game.

Yup I think I read that in your old posts re ghost ships. I don't think I remember that option of donating back to church in PC version but will have to verify.

I think another great thing about max luck I haven't seen anyone mentioned is the ability to find springs everywhere excluding the few coastal deserts. Which means I usually stock only about 10 days of water supply during exploration and top up as necessary by going ashore and searching for water. this frees up more space for food and even some cargo and will be able to support a bigger crew in case some is lost on exploration or pirate attacks.
