Those tasks, to find a treasure, should always start with a visit to the guild in the home port. Choose "job" and the guild master will probably send you to another guild in another port. At the second guild they will probably tell you that a certain vagabond might have some info. TIP: Save before entering the port and the vagabond can change. If it is a vagabond that you know where they normally stay, just go to that port.

Then you have to find that vagabond. On the snes version you can usually treat at the cafe and someone will say that the vagabond is in a certain port. That is if you don't have any goods to sell at the market, then all they seem to want to tell you is where to sell those. Treating at the cafe doesn't work as well on the pc version.

When you arrive at the port where the vagabond is, go to the cafe (pub in the pc version) and talk to the bartender. You will end up having to buy a map from the vagabond and then sail to that location, "go ashore", and then search if you are in the spot that seems to be marked on the map. Pay attention to the mountains and trees.

Anyway, the location of those treasures are always random. If you play a different game you may find an entirely different treasure in the same spot.
