When I am play Joao, whether I initially try to look for the father, the guard tells me "he's looking for you". But I can never seem to find the father for some odd reason.

I've played this game before on an older computer, and this never happened. Am I missing something? I also tried going to the bar first and then going back to the house, but that doesn't work either.

This sounds like you are entering the castle instead of the house. If you enter the castle there is a guard that tells you that Duke Franco was looking for you. When you enter the house Marco greets you and you proceed automatically.

In the pc version, the bar is in front of the castle and the house is just below and slightly to the right of the bar. In the snes version the bar/cafe is in front of the Dukes residence which is in front of the castle.

Any information that I provide is based on the SNES version unless otherwise specified. I have thousands of hours into New Horizons and I have played it since it was released in the US on the SNES.

To play for Joao it is rather interesting. For him in the beginning the good conditions are created, his first assistant - navigator Rocco is well advanced (not worse than pirates from Algeries), then bookkeeper Enrico at once is given. To find him, it is necessary only to go in a building of training and donation (genesis the version). His father and mother give to him money and subjects, which suffice to begin trade. And the plot Joao on the greater degree is connected to opening, on a way twice meets Catalina individual fleet from La Reale. Some times it is necessary to battle to the various pirates on duel. Playing Joao, it is necessary to open villages, ports, and also to study a map of the world to raise the glory in opening. Differently without it the plot will not move.

Joao certainly has some good characters, including the best first mate in the game.

Yes, Joao's story advances with adventure fame, just like Pietro and Ernst. Joao's story has quite a few events and many of them are triggered by visiting the cafe/pub once you meet the adventure fame requirement. His first story event is (not counting the stowaway) is at 2000 adventure fame and he has a number of things that happen at 8000 adventure fame. His next event is triggered at 16000 adventure fame and when completed gets him a 5000 bonus adventure fame. At 30000 adventure fame he gets another event triggered by a visit to the cafe/pub.

To avoid spoilers I have called them events. 😉

You did not try to lose fight Catalina at the first meeting with her? What will be in this case. Is remembered, that one attacks with fleet from 10 la reale.

I think that if you loose that battle (with 10 la reale) your game is over. Yes, she has 10 la reale ships, at least every time that I can remember. I think the only time you can loose a battle without loosing the game is in the first event which is a duel with a story character.

I like to go into the battle with her when I only have one ship and win by duel to claim 9 of those la reale ships.

Interestingly that when occurs the second meeting on water with Catalina, her fleet consists from 9 La Reale and 1 Venetian Galeass (so was at me on genesis of the version). I attacked in this case her, when played for Joao. After that all skills, except for attack and navigation fell almost up to zero, and the speed of my ship has decreased up to 1. It means only crash only.

Unusual detail, though the sense from these supporting fleet no. Playing for Catalina or for Joao at the end of game, in fight the fleet enters only my ships.

What kind of fleet did you have when you met Catalina for this battle?
