Hi all, I think I have uncovered some secrets to the mechanics of loyalty to add to what we already know from Chaoyun2k and others.
Loyalty changes 1st of every month except crew with 100 loyalty.
Treating before hiring as we already know increases starting loyalty up to 100.
Someone mentioned also giving wage rise less than 10 gold pieces could be a bug but did not elaborate so I tested it out. Example - Zaganos Bei, wage 10, starting loyalty low as hired from inn. So I tried to increase wage to 16, knowing that the computer only accepts increments of 10 so his wage is still 10. Repeating this action about 40 times, he finally says 'you don't have to worry about my wages...'
So, I checked out some forums in chinese - it appears increase in loyalty results from wage rise is calculated by wage rise/5 rounded down to the nearest integer. So this wage rise trick can work (at least for PC version) to bring loyalty up to 80 and they will say 'don't worry about wages'.
We know negative loyalty makes it 100 from Chaoyun2k so that's another method.
Loyalty actually changes by a fixed amount every month = leadership of character minus highest value among the mate's stats plus wages/5. Which means if the leadership of the main character is 80, and he hires zaganos for example with highest stat say knowledge of 90, wage of 10, monthly change is going to be 80-90+10/2 = -5, which is why he will never be happy until the main character's leadership goes to 85 or above. Of course sailing for 2 straight calendar months could put the loyalty into negative and hey presto will result in maximum loyalty.
Hope this helps clarify why some mates don't max out their loyalty and others do over a 2 months sail =) certainly did for me.
