I'm not sure what you mean by the 31,31...40 because that looks like you aren't giving him a raise at all or you are giving him a raise of 31 which means his wages would be 31, 62, 93...etc.

Every time I give him more than 30, he keep saying thank you even though I don't really raise his wage until he gets 40 but by that time he said thank you 8 or 9 times. ๐Ÿ˜€

I have paid attention to such moment. If one of your navigators in next time asks increases of wages, sometimes can give up. In this case, the navigator, who has left you, remain in a bar or room of rest of that port, where you are at this moment. It is possible to go and again to employ him. After such cases they already will set more cautiously such questions.

I was finally able to recruit Simon Sekeira, I used him as a bookkeeper and I also recruited Khayr-ad-Din as my First mate. ๐Ÿ˜€ I wasn't able to get Pilly Reis though because I finished my game before finding him. That would have been great.
BTW, which character do you like to attack the most?
For some reasons, I always attack Guido Benzo. Maybe it's because I think about Mario every time I seen him. ๐Ÿ˜€
I like to attack the Spanish war fleet and the Ottoman the most. I can't remember the names of the captains at the moment.

What were your levels when you got Simon? This is on the PC version right?

To get Pilly in the SNES version it takes a combination of sailing and battle levels equal or greater than 101, at least for the main characters that I have checked. I need to check Ali because I think he can get him sooner.

Any information that I provide is based on the SNES version unless otherwise specified. I have thousands of hours into New Horizons and I have played it since it was released in the US on the SNES.

No I always play with the SNES version.
I need to take a break from it because I've been playing everyday for about 2 months now. I might try Uncharted Waters 1 for a change but since I can't find my ports and trading good list, I'll have to redo it but it's a lot of work.

Recently, playing, I try to type a command on the appropriate loyalty of the character. If for Spain, I search for the Spaniards - navigators, if for Holland, Dutchs and ั‚. ะด. A problem that from a beginning of game it is impossible to hire 10 men for complete fleet, and to have to wait while will appear new.

Yeah, I attempted something similar a long time ago. That was before I realized that there are only 40 recruit-able mates unless you defeat one of the fleets from a country, and a lot of those wouldn't be recruit-able even then because of levels and fame (early in the game).

I usually tried to get the navigators that has at least Navigation and Gunnery.
Besides that I prefer to hire one that has aboved named skills + Bookkeeping.
The rest of the skills aren't really needed as far as I know.
And the other stats can be increased by sailing/fighting If I remember correctly.

Another thing I did was hiring 'all' pirates.

Some were pretty hard to get, like Mohammed Syarook and Ulgu Ali. Also the other Turkish guy who sits in Tunis, whos name I forgot. They were pretty hard to get aboard the ship.

Some other pirates just 'vanished' when killing them. Much much later on in the game there were also very high level sailors with all kinda 'new random' names. Never could hire them. They always vanished as well. :{

That would be tough, hiring all pirates.

The thing about those replacement sailors is that they have replaced people that are considered temporary and as such will be temporary too. You might try to defeat them early in the month and then try to find them.

Defeated captains usually go to a port in the vicinity or to a port where they would normally start the game.
