I've already discovered and sold most of the village locations. I got 9 pages full and the 10th page only has 2 on it. But the king has asked me to find a discovery for him and I'm not even sure if the game checks to see if you already got them all or not.

Here's a map of what I searched so far. Oh and I did this all in a light galley with it as my only ship. I was wondering if I could do it and I did. On top of that I made over 800k gold selling 98% of my discoveries and the map I uncovered so far.

Well here's a link if there's any black spot that you know might have a village please tell me. I'm doing Ernst's story this time.

Yeah, there should be 3 more villages. The bad news is that they are random, in other words you get 50 of the 98 possible when you start a game. Some of the villages in a new game will be the same as previous games and others will be entirely different.

This is one of the two potential problems with getting the rank of Duke. The ruler may not be satisfied with the last three discoveries that you can make. The good news is that those aren't required to finish the story. The main benefit of ranks is that you can buy things at the market cheaper. Any other possible benefit can be overcome with levels or fame.

The story is based on your fame and if you refuse a ruler's request or tell him you won't (can't) finish one of his quests, he will cut your fame in half. Hopefully those last three villages will be enough to satisfy him. Looking at your map you might find a village on a large island that is east of Australia and another on a teeny, tiny island even further east.

It looks like you haven't "discovered" the Hawaiian Islands yet, but that won't help you with the ruler's request. There is possibly a village to the east of those two islands that are just south of Zeiton.

If you focus on clearing the dark areas west of the Americas you will possibly find those other three villages, and you MIGHT clear enough to get a complete map which gets you a lot of fame.

Did that help?

Any information that I provide is based on the SNES version unless otherwise specified. I have thousands of hours into New Horizons and I have played it since it was released in the US on the SNES.

Thanks for the help. Couldn't find the last two but the one on the small island east of Australia. The larger island near Australia just had a port. Same with Hawaiian islands. But the discovery I found was a star discovery and that did the trick.

If I somehow find the other two discovery's and sell them and have all my discoveries complete will the king still as me to find some for him. I'd like to be duke before I complete the game.

Save before entering your home port, or raise one of the other fames higher than your adventure fame. The ruler will ask you to complete a task related to your highest fame, but even if you have adventure fame the highest he could ask you to deliver a letter to another ruler or ask you to make an alliance with another ruler. Those two tasks can be asked regardless of the type of fame and if you save before entering the home port you can reset if he asks for discoveries.

Warning, the trade fame tasks can be long and possibly difficult. Besides the letter delivery or make alliance he might ask you to buy a certain amount of product. That one is easy enough if you have been investing in ports because the higher your trade fame, the harder it should be to find the good he wants. Or you can get lucky and he'll ask for carpet or art. The last trade request is to invest in a certain number of ports. The number of ports tends to be larger as your ranks get higher.

If you continue to be asked because of adventure fame, then saving before entering your home port is your only choice. This works MUCH better in the SNES version than in the pc version. Anyway, he may ask for you to deliver a letter or make an alliance with adventure too. The other two possibilities are for the ruler to ask for your discoveries, or for you to find a treasure. If he asks for your discoveries, just reset and re-enter the port.

The piracy fame requests are the same two easy ones, deliver a letter or make an alliance. The other two are attack a certain fleet or to attack pirates. Attacking a certain fleet sometimes takes patience because they may be difficult to get them out of the home port. If you have developed relationships with waitresses then you can get information on any of the fleets.

Sorry, I got carried away there. Did that answer your question?

Are all characters able to find all the discoveries?
I've always wondered about that. Sometimes I can find more stuff down the nile using a different character than the previous game. Also, does it change the statistic of finding a new village when the buyer tells us about a rumor and gives us the coordinates? I mean can the village be found without asking or once the collector tells us where it could be that the game triggers the new village?

Regardless of who your main character is you can ALWAYS find 50 villages (There are a lot of places that tell you there are only 49, but I've played hundreds of games and the SNES and PC versions have 50) in EVERY game. You can't find EVERY village in ANY game because there are 98 villages total (I think the assumption was that you could get half of that in every game). Ok, I guess it is possible that there is a code that would allow you to find every village, but I don't know of one.

It doesn't matter if the buyer or guild tells you where to find something, it was there already. The villages for each game are determined at the start of the game. You will find that a lot of people will recommend sailing to the Saber-Tooth location at the start of a game (an easy 100,000) and if it isn't there to restart the game. I guess that will work if you are careful, but I only check for that if I already have the cartography skill and a contract (that way I don't lose any fame from map making), but if you want a quick hit and a little trick to make the game a little easier it is one of the better suggestions that I have seen.

Villages can ALWAYS be found without asking anyone. I've seen games were there wasn't a single discovery in the Nile area, but there is usually at least two or three. The same for the Amazon area.

By the way, there are six possible 100,000 discoveries. The most I've seen in a single game was 4 and the least that I remember was 2. They only pay 100,000 if you sign up with the collector in Bordeaux or the one in Lisbon. Joao cannot sign up in Lisbon. The other collectors pay less (either 80,000 or 60,000) depending on who you sign up with. If you make a STAR rated discovery you should report that to your collector to ensure that the ruler doesn't take it when he wants discoveries.

I really need to talk to Greg and see if he wants my spreadsheet with all 98 villages and their values.

I hope that helped and at least partially answered your question, sorry for the wall of text...
