That is the thing about regional releases that are only available in one language, fewer people have access to them or are willing to attempt a game where they don't understand the dialogue. Koei has a LOT of those games.

Any information that I provide is based on the SNES version unless otherwise specified. I have thousands of hours into New Horizons and I have played it since it was released in the US on the SNES.

Does this bring back some memories?
I just found it while I was searching for ebooks about the Mediterranean Sea.

This is my first post, so please be kind.

I have the PC version of the RTK3 and find it far outshines the SNES version in terms of playability. It has random elements that make Uncharted Waters (both versions) so enduring.
It works very well using DOSBOX.

I also found, back in the mid 1990's, the PC version of New Horizons in the discount software section of a computer store while working in NYC - complete and unopenned. It never worked well on my PC at the time due to the graphics of my monitor, so I did not play it. It is still in mint condition with all included books and maps.

I was a big fan of Uncharted Waters, having purchased it when it first came out, but I did not find the SNES version of New Horizons until the Early 2000's. Found a SNES version on ebay that stated it was complete, unopenned, and unplayed. It was shrink wrapped with all items included, and there was no game to continue. I have played it ever since.

Nice to know I am not alone in this.

If you browse the forums about Uncharted Waters you will realize that there are very dedicated fans of this great game. 😀

My apologies, I failed to check the topics once again. Welcome OldBob! I got my PC version of New Horizons from a yard sale about 15 years ago. I didn't get the books or manuals, so it took me a while to learn how to play the PC version.

Maybe this is a little funny, my first couple of games I kept thinking I wish I could put the ship in the center of the screen instead of so near the edge (because I kept slamming into land before I could change directions). Anyway, about the third or fourth game I started playing with the settings and I found that one of them allowed me to have the ship more in the center. I was elated and that helped me a lot, because I'm not as fast as I once was with the controls. 😀

I'll have to try the RTK3 for the PC. I played it on the SNES when it first came out, but then I got into Ogre Battle and a few other games so I never played it as much as I did the first two.

I have so much time into two games it is almost sad when I think how many hours I spent on them. The two are New Horizons and Bandit Kings of Ancient China. It wasn't like I could afford a new game every month or anything, so I spent a lot of time on the early games. Also there wasn't a lot of help for many of those games at the time, so you had to figure everything out for yourself. Ahh, nostalgia. 😀

Any information that I provide is based on the SNES version unless otherwise specified. I have thousands of hours into New Horizons and I have played it since it was released in the US on the SNES.

Yes the good old time. Now you can find tutorials, cheats and walkthrough everywhere. 😀

Yeah, and the newer games seem to "require" those things! I know it always frustrates me to find something out (via a faq or walkthrough) and I think, "how and why would someone ever think to do that".

There is one game that I can't seem to play anymore without using one cheat. I found out how to set the stats in PTO and it is so much faster than trying to get a character with a high war stat, so I just set the first character to 1,1,99,1 and then set the others normally.

In New Horizons I reload a game to get better stat increases on the level ups so I guess I tend to use that if I don't like the first result. I have played with setting stats and relocating people when testing, but when playing I use the reload for better results.

I've only learned to do those things in the last couple of years, so I spent about 20 years without using a cheat. Oh wait, I remember someone showing me a cheat for Age of Empires that I used a few times (some robot/spaceman that could fire from one side of the map to the other).

I totally agree with you.

I've only learned to do those things in the last couple of years, so I spent about 20 years without using a cheat.

Yup, we used our brain more back then. I remember when I first rented RTK from my local videoclub.
They didn't have the booklet so I had to figure out
everything. The same happened with Genghis Khan, Nobunaga and Rise of the Phoenix. After that I started going to used game shops and bought them all with the booklets.

Oh wait, I remember someone showing me a cheat for Age of Empires that I used a few times (some robot/spaceman that could fire from one side of the map to the other).

Yes the photon man with lazer gun and e=mc2 trooper with nuke codes.
I also liked the big Bertha code that increased the range of a catapult. 😀
Sometimes the enemy priest would convert your nuke trooper and then you got in real trouble.

I had to use a cheat when I played Destiny of an Emperor on an emulator. I was stuck where Pan Tong is sleeping and you have to wait for him to wake up
so he can join your party. I got stuck way back when I still owned a NES so I never finished it until I found a walkthrough.

I want to go back to New Horizon but I can't stop playing with The Knight of Lodis on the GBA.
I've got all the different endings (A,B,C,D) and used pretty much every combination for the final team.
One time I had Glycinia and Lubina in my final team and I'm telling you those fairy sisters kick butt with their special attack. When you train them to get the fist fight emblem they can punch an enemy in the nose, that's so hilarious. 😀
