I just found some notes I took from the book Venetian Ships and Shipbuilders of the Renaissance by F.C.Lane.
It reads that the Flemish Galley (not galleon)was used as merchant ship and could carry 200 tons of good and 200 mens or more.
20 of them were bowmen and after 1486, they used guns.

13th century (Mediterranean Sea): A caravan was composed of Galleys, Busses, and Tarretes and their route were Venice to Syria or Venice to Constantinople.

14th century: They used great galleys for goods and light galleys for protection.
There's also a mention of Heavy Galleys.
I wonder if Heavy Galley and Venetian Galleass were the same? They could carry up to 70 cannons, 8 at the prow,10 at the poop, and the rest on the sides. They shot 3 to 5 pounds balls.

I have more notes but I'm getting tired, I'll add more info tomorrow maybe.

I base my thoughts on the dialogue between Matthew and Otto when they arrive in Seville and trigger the events there. BTW, if you stop at more than one regular port in that game before arriving in Seville you will disable the Seville and related events.

I thought that I would stop and pick up some mates one time and that didn't work. 🙁

Any information that I provide is based on the SNES version unless otherwise specified. I have thousands of hours into New Horizons and I have played it since it was released in the US on the SNES.

I decided to be a pirate only and I had a great battle against Idin Leis while I was exploring the Nile river and later I fought Khayr-ad Din and suffered heavy damage to my fleet and I was between the supply port of Cape town and Timbucktu so I had to drag the Venetian Galleass all the way up to sell them and spend 4 days recruiting crews.
Men I love this game so far. I had to gamble at first to get enough money to buy a 2nd decent ship and now I have 5 new Atakabune (80 crew) and 1 Tekkoussen (120). 🙂
